My wife says our decorating aesthetic is either thrifty librarian or secondhand bougie broke. Fair enough! Almost every furnishing in our new house was snagged for free!
At worst, it came from a Habitat for Humanity ReStore. Primarily, though, we have used local Buy Nothing chapters. There was also a local nonprofit that closed that was looking to shed its furnishings.
And, of course, it pays dividends to be part of a church community. Fellow parishioners are always looking to unload unwanted household items and lend a helping hand.
Here’s our haul so far:
- Various decor items
- Four dining room chairs
- Cabinets for the mud room
- A coat rack
- Two side tables
- Five living room chairs
- A love seat
- Two ottomans
- Almost all our plants
- A cutting Board
- Two wingback chairs
- A couch
- Bookshelves
- A TV stand and cabinet
- A bench
- Kid storage bins
- Two Keurigs
- A queen bed
- Three bedroom side tables
- Two kitchen chairs
- One bedroom chair
- Wall shelves
- An office chair
- An office side table
- Curtains
- A baker’s rack
- A comforter
- Clothes for Em and I
- Half our daughter’s toys
- Half our daughter’s clothes
- All our storage shelves
- A ton of lamps
- A Burkey water filter
Props to my wife for leading the charge on all this and her garbage picking tendencies.
